Mark O’Sullivan

Mark O’Sullivan was a teenager with mental illness and agoraphobia, consumed by substance and alcohol addiction before being supported by the ICAS team

“I was only 14 years old when I left home. I was basically in a psych ward before I bounced around from hostel to hostel.”

Working with George and the ICAS team helped Mark find new opportunities in life.

“George does not believe anything is impossible for a disabled person. He supports you in every way you could ask for and sometimes even more. There is nothing we can’t do. I am now in a commission house. It feels nice to finally be settled. If I did not have George and his company I’d probably be back in hostels sitting around doing nothing, smoking cigarettes all day. I’d still be on the drugs and alcohol.”

The consistent support of ICAS helped break Mark free of a self-destructive cycle and encouraged him to strive for a brighter future.

“With George’s support I’d love to do a counselling course. I’d like to get back to blind cricket. I’d like to go on to uni if I can and study psychology. With the right support, I think anything is achievable, particularly with George and his team because George just does not take ‘no’ for an answer. It’s changed my life completely. Now everything is positive.”
