Judith Eaglesham

Judith’s son, Ben, was a young man with an intellectual disability who sought ICAS help in transitioning from a special education school to an independent life.

“When we first met the team we were very frightened of the future. Ben was 18 and had left school. We were looking for someone to help us with the ‘Moving Ahead’ program and found ICAS.”

Ben had an interest in classical music and was supported in working at radio station 4MBS, initially for cleanliness and to prepare music that was donated. He was gradually supported by the team to learn writing, numeracy, the use of public transport and computer skills in TAFE courses. Eventually 4MBS worked with his growing music knowledge. Extraordinarily, he is now a weekly programmer for 4MBS.

“If we had not had support from George and his team, our lives would have been quite different. ICAS made us feel more relaxed about the future knowing that Ben could achieve great things.”
