Jane O’Sullivan
Jane O’Sullivan is the mother of Mark and Eva, both of whom have disabilities including blindness and intellectual deficits.
“George is very persistent. He has opened everything up for us. If we had not had this support, my children would still be sitting in a hostel doing nothing with their life dwindling away, not achieving anything. We were all going nowhere, whereas now they have confidence. Eva has plans now, which is something she never had before. I even get a little more independence – I don’t have to be at home and tied down – which is a big relief because that is what I thought was going to be my life. I get the chance to be what I want to be.”
“What I find unique about this service is its flexibility. It’s helpful, they’re innovative, they’re creative. It’s definitely progressive.”
“It’s a good thing for a government because it allows parents to go out and get jobs; they can have a separate life and can contribute as people rather than sitting at home and thinking ‘well now this is about it’. It is a fantastic thing because it improves the parents’ life and it improves the children’s life.”
